Why it matters
For three mana you get a 2/2 that destroys an artifact the moment it hits the battlefield. That is removal stapled to a body — years before "creature with a built-in answer" became a standard design tool. In 1997 the usual way to break an artifact was a sorcery that did nothing else, so a version that left a blocker behind felt like a bargain.
